The third-person narrative was an excellent choice. Maybe it's me, but traveling often gives me an out-of-body experience - like I'm there, also not there, and observing everything happening to someone who looks and acts like me. They're probably having a good time, but I can't tell anymore. I'll just pretend it's going well.
