Scratching the shifting tectonic surface

Break it down slowly
so cracks don’t show in daylight,
its voids risk overheating
yet I couldn’t detect a pattern —
I lucidly promise,
if I took no time to grieve
could we move without pausing?
conceal the awkwardness
reset the next as nothing ensued,
I saw the last line
but it was only the second-last,
we never meant it to…
