Most people (in my experience) aren't looking for a discussion. They want to argue, spread hate in some form. I don't answer these questions either. When I was younger I used to tell people I'm an atheist and their expressions conveyed grave offense. And I wanted to scream - then why did you ask me? Now, it's more nuanced, and I'd only share it with someone who wants to understand.
