Mainstream/popular advice sucks.

I have a voice too, and yeah it's an ordeal listening to it.

It can get in the way of writing for sure, but when I've written something the voice thought was bad that turned out to be just one opinion. Even if it was bad, I'm happy to have done something than not done it.

Which is never an easy feat to achieve, but we keep trying.
