I agree with you. I'm on Substack but haven't switched on paid subscriptions. I'm mainly doing it because of FOMO to be honest. I read others work there, but as you said, I don't pay for them. I don't see it working for me. Ko-fi is a one-time thing. It's not a commitment. $5/month set up as a recurring payment is a lot IMO.
